EY Job Description: Software Engineer Role
As a Software Engineer at EY GDS, the selected candidate will contribute to the development and engineering team by engaging in coding, programming, and specification capture for assigned projects, leveraging their developing technical skills. They will also assist in the creation and upkeep of solutions or infrastructure, ensuring adherence to relevant standards. Furthermore, they will collaborate with users to gather requirements and draft design specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyzing user requirements and translating them into solution or infrastructure deliverables using coding and programming skills.
- Performing coding, debugging, testing, and troubleshooting tasks during the development process for projects of limited complexity under supervision.
- Testing finished products for quality and recommending changes to product specifications when necessary.
- Collaborating with users to understand requirements and translating them into design specifications for review by senior team members.
- Monitoring emerging technologies and applying developing skills to solution/infrastructure deliverables.
- Ensuring all activities comply with relevant processes, procedures, standards, and technical designs.
Skills and Attributes for Success
Candidates should demonstrate developing technical competency in designing, developing, and debugging solutions. Knowledge of one or more of the following is highly desirable: SQL, C++, HTML, CGI, and JavaScript.
Essential Qualifications
To be eligible for the role, candidates must possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 0-1 years of relevant experience.
- Some industry experience demonstrating working knowledge of relevant software infrastructure platforms (depending on specialization) and understanding of applicable standards.
- Functional knowledge in building applications using container-orchestration systems like Kubernetes and container engines like Docker.
- Functional knowledge in building real-time data pipelines and streaming apps using Kafka and RabbitMQ message broker.
- Functional knowledge of programming scripting such as JavaScript, PowerShell, Python, Bash, SQL, .NET, Java, PHP, Ruby, PERL, C++, R, etc.
- Experience with CI/CD delivery using code management, configuration management, and automation tools such as GitHub, VSTS, Ansible, DSC, Puppet, Ambari, Chef, Salt, Jenkins, Maven, etc.
- Functional knowledge of delivery using modern methodologies, especially SAFe Agile, Iterative, Waterfall, etc.
