Job Description: Associate Engineer Trainee
As an Associate Engineer Trainee, you will be supporting the team in executing routine software engineering activities, adhering to established procedures and processes. You will contribute to the delivery of the engineering strategy and roadmap, which aligns with BT’s commercial objectives. This role involves cross-functional project and technical delivery, and encourages innovation and engineering excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop logic for alarm handling and alarm correlation to ensure network stability.
- Create custom adapters to collect network fault and performance data using protocols like SNMP, Syslog, and Telemetry.
- Develop scripts and adapters using Python and Shell scripting for automation and data processing.
- Demonstrate the ability to multitask, work independently, and possess strong problem-solving skills.
- Participate in delivering solutions using Agile methodologies, ensuring efficient and iterative development.
- Conduct in-depth technical analysis to overcome challenging situations and achieve optimal outcomes.
- Deliver high-quality software releases on schedule, meeting project deadlines.
- Adhere to robust engineering practices to maintain code quality and system reliability.
- Debug complex issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Work with technologies such as Java, Kubernetes, Grafana, and database systems like MySQL, Oracle, and Graph DBs, as well as Python scripting.
- Perform root cause analysis of production errors and implement solutions to prevent recurrence.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A bachelor’s or master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Engineering).
- Knowledge (for freshers) or experience in Java with a strong understanding of JDK 17.
- Solid understanding of Kubernetes & Docker for containerization and orchestration.
- Proficiency in Python and Shell Scripting for automation and scripting tasks.
- Experience with Apache Kafka for handling real-time data streams.
- Proficiency in REST API development and integration.
- Experience with REST-based Microservices, Spring Boot, Weblogic, and ActiveMQ.
- Familiarity with tools like Grafana, Kibana, and Git Lab runner for monitoring, logging, and CI/CD.
- Good knowledge of MySQL, Graph databases, and their components.
- Experience working in an Agile (Scrum) environment with globally distributed teams.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and documentation skills.
- A proactive problem-solving attitude.
- Experience in handling large volumes of data in real-time and batch processing modes.
- Strong knowledge of the Linux operating system.
Additional Skills (Preferred)
- Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Knowledge of network protocols and technologies.
- Experience with testing frameworks and methodologies.
